Young Apprenticeship Programme

The Carlisle Motor Vehicle Young Apprenticeship Programme forms part of our family of apprenticeship programmes. It is unique in that the number of partnerships approved to offer this programme will always be limited. The programme provides a more personalised approach to teaching and learning and is aimed at pupils of good ability who are attracted to a more practical style of learning.

This exciting opportunity is aimed at those who have an interest directly with the world of cars, trucks and motor bikes. It gives them the opportunity to learn in the adult setting of the college as well as gaining vital ‘real work’ experience in a garage or workshop. They will see life from another angle

It is run by a local partnership consisting of:
  • Carlisle College (Lead Partner)
  • Your school
  • Learning and Skills Council (LSC)
  • Automotive Skills (the sector Skills Council for the Motor Industry)
  • Local dealerships, independent garages, and fleet and haulage firms
The Partnership provides pupils with an enriching range of learning experiences, which includes up to 50 days of work experience over the two years of the course. The partners form a support network to help pupils get the most out of the programme.

Looking ahead, on completing the programme a Young Apprentice will achieve a Technical Certificate Level 2, equivalant to 5 GCSE grades A–C. This will provide a flying start to their careers, if they decide to join the industry at 16, but there is no obligation to do so.

During the programme the young Apprentice will still be studying their main school core subjects. Each Apprentice will be appointed his/her own personal tutor, who will track student progress at school, college and work placement and will provide regular progress updates to the schools, students themselves and Parents/Guardian
