Carlisle College ‘Mo’s’ prepare for the big shave off
A team from Carlisle College has been taking part in the annual ‘Movember’ campaign. The team of 9 staff at the College have so far raised over £800 for the cause and are hoping to reach £1000 before it closes.
Every year in November, ‘Movember’ is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on the faces of thousands of men throughout the UK. The aim is to raise funds and awareness of for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.
The team registered at the beginning of November with clean shaven faces and then for the rest of the month the team known as the Carlisle College Mo’s groom and trim their way towards the annals of fine moustachery. The team have been supported by friends, family and colleagues. Women supporting the cause, known as Mo Sisters have also supported the team in raising funds.
Team Leader, Andrew Sullivan from Carlisle College said:
“It's been an itchy month for the 9 Carlisle College Mo's, but we've also had a lot of fun being involved in this charity event. I feel very proud to be part of Movember and I'm over the moon with the support that we have had from friends, family and students. I am confident that we will double our original target of £500 as we are all still receiving donations and will continue to do so over the next few days. More importantly we are raising the profile of mens health and the awareness of Prostate and Testicular cancers."
To mark the success of this year’s effort, members of the team will be taking part in a ‘big shave off’ in Essence Salon at Carlisle College. Staff and students from the department of Creative Industries will be charged with shaving the moustaches from the team.
