Case Study - Corus Group

Corus is the 2nd largest steel provider in Europe. It is a customer focused, innovative, value driven company which manufactures, processes and distributes steel products and services to customers worldwide.

The Brief

Corus wanted a bespoke training package for their Production Operatives to enable them to develop basic engineering skills in order to provide a supporting function to the site's engineering team.

Shapfells comments:

"We have found it considerable useful during our "Weathering the Storm" initiative, as we try to carryout more maintenance activity in-house rather than bringing in contractors. The response and take up from the workforce has been tremendous"

The Solution

The College worked very closely with Corus to identify specific needs within the organisation. A bespoke training package was then created by the college, aimed at addressing the needs. The training was delivered on site, fitting in with shift patterns to minimise disruption to the day to day operations of the business. The training was also designed to be delivered using Corus’s equipment and machinery to ensure that it was as realistic and relevant as possible.

Since the success of the bespoke training, Corus have sent employees to the College to complete training courses designed to keep employees up to date with industry legislation. The College has also delivered work based NVQ training to other Corus employees on site.
