Course Content

This provides education and music training for those keen to achieve a nationally recognised vocational qualification. During the course you will be given the opportunity to develop a range of musical skills and techniques as well as transferrable skills for success in working life. This full time course is delivered across 3 days and successful completion will provide opportunities to enter employment or to progress onto our Level 3 qualifications in Music Performance or Music Production.

Method of Study

You will learn through a variety of methods including lectures, band rehearsals and work experience. 

Method of Assessment

Assessment includes a range of methods and styles suited to the expectations of a musician such as:

  • Reflective diaries on your band rehearsal process – helping you understand how to make a group rehearsal more productive.
  • Gigs (lots of them!) – developing your technical musical ability and stage presence.
  • Digital portfolios – milestone videos demonstrating how your skills have improved.
  • Online exams – demonstrating your understanding of the music industry (job roles, contracts, legal issues) and using your musical vocabulary to analyse the musical and sonic components of a track.
  • Recordings – developing your sequencing skills to produce musical tracks
  • Digital portfolio – creating on online presence to display your knowledge and creativity. 

This style of assessment draws on the learning throughout the qualification and assessments are graded using a scale of pass, merit and distinction criteria.

Entry Requirements
  • 4 GCSEs, at Grade D/3 and above including Maths and English at grade D/3 or above.
  • Level 2 Pathways with Maths and English grade D or Functional skills Level 2.
  • Pass an audition – demonstrating your instrumental/vocal skills. 
What Can I Do Next?

There is the option to apply for the Level 3 Diploma in Music Performance and Production or any other level 3 qualification with a minimum of a Merit achieved at Level 2.
