A career in Beauty therapy offers a diverse range of experiences including hotel and spa work, salon work or working as beauty therapist on a cruise ship. Successful students can expect to earn in the region of £14,000 - £27,000 per year.

Course Content

The following units will be covered:

  • Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
  • Client care and communication in beauty related industries
  • Working in beauty related industries
  • Provide body massage
  • Provide facial electrotherapy treatments
  • Provide body electrotherapy treatments
  • Provide Stone Therapy
  • Provide Indian head massage
  • Provide micro dermabrasion
  • Provide body massage
  • Contribute to the effective running of a business

Method of Study

The course is delivered using a combination of practical and theory work. 

You will spend time in Carlisle College's own commercial salon, which is open to the public. This will encourage you to deal with clients confidently, tactfully and sympathetically.There will also be opportunities for you to visit beauty exhibitions throughout the country, and there will be guest speakers who will teach you the secrets of their skills and opportunities to gain additional qualifications.

In order to successfully complete your practical skills assessments, students must provide suitable clients for treatments.  Clients will be charged according to the salon price list available from the Hair & Beauty Reception.

A wide range of enrichment activities are an integral part of the course.

Method of Assessment

Throughout the course you will build up a portfolio of evidence of your progress, which will be used for assessment, as well as assessment of practical sessions for each unit.

In addition there will be projects/assignments and oral questioning. Individual and group tutorial sessions are arranged as required.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs grades 9-4 (A -C) including Maths and English

Level 2 Beauty Therapy and associated functional skills in Maths and English

A high standard of personal hygiene and grooming and commitment to the course and a friendly and mature personality.

Applicants will need to complete a skills test and pass interview criteria with the course tutor.

What Can I Do Next?

After successful completion of this course you may progress onto Level 3 Diploma in Holistic Therapies (1 Year) or enrol onto one of our evening courses in reflexology or foundation degree, or into employment with a choice of diverse opportunities inluding:

  • Cruise Ship work £2,400-£4,200 per month
  • 5* Spa Therapy £18,000 - £20,000 per year
  • Beauty Therapist £14,000 - £19,000 per year
  • Spa Manager £25,000 - £27,000 per year
