College set to host ‘Engineer The Future’ event

Ensuring that Cumbria’s engineering businesses and students are better prepared for the future is main aim of a prestigious event being hosted by Carlisle College in February called ‘Engineer The Future’.

The event, which is being held on 22 February between 6pm and 8.30pm at the Victoria Place campus has been organised by Colin Luhrs, Head of Engineering and Technical Services and is open to all engineering businesses across the region with a view to them gaining an insight into the future engineering needs of industry.

Special guests include Dr Sarah Peers from NEF (New Engineering Foundation) who will be specifically looking at identifying the future skills gaps that will need plugging by businesses and training providers; and a representative from Britain’s Energy Coast, who will informing guests how their businesses can become part of the nuclear supply chain and access future contracts.

Commenting on the event, Colin Luhrs said, “We feel it’s important that as an engineering training provider we have an open dialogue with industry to ensure that our curriculum and training is future proof, and meets their ever changing demands and needs.

“Engineering innovation is moving at a rapid rate and the event will present guests with a valuable insight into how it’s changing, and in an economic climate where growth is high on the agenda, will no doubt help them to shape their future priorities and focus.”

The event will also give attendees the opportunity to view the College’s extensive state of the art engineering facilities, its learning spaces and the recently opened £10m campus.

Engineer the Future takes place on 22 February between 6pm and 8.30pm at Carlisle College, Victoria Place Campus, Carlisle. To reserve your place at the ‘Engineer The Future’ event, e-mail asullivan@carlisle.ac.uk or call 01228 822702.
