Entry Requirements:

GCSEs at grades D-G or equivalent, mature students with relevant experience and/or other qualifications may be eligible. At least 16 years old with an interest in the engineering trade. Acceptance is subject to initial assessment and interview.



Course Content:

The course is made up of 1 Mandatory unit and a number of optional units. The optional units enable the student to study particular areas of engineering in depth. The course content includes
Mandatory Unit:-

  • Working Safely in Engineering

 

Optional units include:-

  • Welding
  • Marking out
  • Using hand tools
  • Starting work in engineering
  • Assembling mechanical components
  • Planning and making a machined product.
  • Drilling
  • Working as a team

As part of your course, you will be required to study towards functional skills in Maths, English and IT at an appropriate level.



Method of Study

Most of your time will be spent in our fully equipped engineering workshop. Some time will be spent in the classroom doing theory sessions and assignments.



Method of Assessment

The BTEC course is assessed through individual assignments written by the tutor in accordance with the criteria set by the awarding body.
Functional skills courses are assessed by a final written examination.



Progression Routes

After successful completion of the course, progression is possible to a BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate or Diploma in Engineering or a level 2 Apprenticeship programme.
