UCLAN CERT IN EDUCATION
This qualification is open to all new in service, pre service and pre employment teachers, trainers and tutors in the Lifelong Learning Sector. The certificate is designed for those who are or hope to be employed in a full teaching role having responsibility for learners throughout the learning process and engaging in teaching on a range of academic levels within their subject specialism.
Full Award trainees maybe either pre service (placement) or in service (contracted teaching) and will be expected to demonstrate the following:-
Teach students of 16 years and older.
Undertake diagnostic assessments with learners.
Develop schemes of work and curriculum programmes from national syllabi.
Develop resources for teaching, learning and assessment.
Deliver teaching and learning to a range of learners and programmes across a selection of academic levels.
Develop, implement and evaluate a range of assessment strategies to promote and test learning.
Evaluate learning programmes, resources and assessment both with learners and independently.
Give advice and guidance to learners.
Voluntary teaching placement or contracted teaching should be in the FE or the 'regulated' sector. This leads to QTLS status.
Under exceptional circumstances approved voluntary teaching placements in other recognised local and supported teaching situations maybe accepted but may lead to QTLS status.

Entry Requirements:
All Certificate in Education entrants / applicants must have the following:- A level 3 NQF qualification in their own subject specialism. Have an appropriate level of education (5 GCSEs at grade C and above or equivalent is a minimum qualification, and must include English Language). The ability to verbally communicate fluently and confidently in English. A teaching or training contract for a minimum of 150 hours of teaching over the course of the programme. Under exceptional circumstances a voluntary teaching placement may be acceptable for part time applicants. Trainees on the full time programme will undertake an appropriate teaching placement in consultation with the course provider. All PGCE entrants / applicants must have the following:- A first degree or equivalent, 5 GCSEs at grade C and above or equivalent is a minimum qualification, to include English Language. A level 3 NQF qualification in their teaching subject specialism, if other than their degree. A teaching or training contract for a minimum of 150 hours of teaching over the course of the programme. Under exceptional circumstances a voluntary teaching placement maybe acceptable for part time applicants.Course Content:
The qualification is made up of six 20 credit modules. Certificate in Education Trainees undertake 3 modules at level 1HE / 4NQF and 3 modules at level 2HE / 5NQF. PGCE Trainees undertake 3 modules at level 1HE/4NQF, 1 module at level 3HE/6NQF and 2 modules at Masters level 4HE/7NQF. The part time programme is offered over two years with 3 modules in each year. The full time programme is offered over one academic year. The qualification comprises the following study and activities:- An initial assessment of literacy, numeracy and ICT skills and commencement of the Professional Development Portfolio. Completion of the Threshold award 'Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector'. Module Two Aligning Teaching learning and Assessment. Module Three: Teaching and Reflecting on own Practice; including 75 hrs of teaching practice / placement within a subject specialism and 4 hours of observed practice. Module Four: Action Research. Module Five: Professional Values and Inclusive Practice. Module Six: Teaching and Reflecting on others' Practice; including 75 hrs of teaching practice / placement within a subject specialism and 4 hours of observed practice You will need to spend up to 20 hours per week on course related activities during the programme: class contact, logged teaching, preparation for teaching, private reading, preparation for formative and summative assessment activities (40 hours per week for the full time programme)Progression Routes
Undergraduate trainees will have 120 credits at undergraduate level and can progress onto Combined Honours programmes, BA in Education and CPD Framework at the University of Central Lancashire. Post Graduate Certificate Students will have 60 credits at Masters level and can progress onto the MA in Educational Research and the MEd as well as the Post Graduate CPD Framework.Other Details
ACCREDITATION OF PRIOR LEARNING (APL) APL of a maximum of 10 credits will be given to entrants who are holders of 'Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector' (or equivalent) from any other awarding body providing it is at Level 1HE / 4NQF against the equivalent part of the Certificate programme. APL of a maximum of 20 credits will be given to entrants who are holders of a Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (Associate Lecturer role) from any other awarding body providing it is at Level 1HE / 4NQF against the equivalent part of the Certificate programme.Apply for this course online
