These qualifications are open to all new in service, pre service and pre employment teachers, trainers and tutors in the Lifelong Learning Sector. The certificates are designed for those who are, or hope to be employed in a full teaching role taking responsibility for learners throughout the learning process and engaging in teaching on a range of academic levels within their subject specialism. Full Award trainees would be expected to use resources they have designed and evaluated, deliver learning across a range of levels, subjects and learner types, and contribute to a range of programmes of varying lengths. The programme leads to QTLS (Qualified Teacher Status Lifelong Learning Sector).

Entry Requirements:
All Certificate in Education entrants / applicants must have the following:- A level 3 NQF (National Qualifications Framework) qualification in their own subject specialism. (some academic subjects require Level 4). Have an appropriate level of education (5GCSEs at C and above or equivalent (one in English language). Potential to complete 150 hours of teaching which may be voluntary over the course of the programme. (75 hours in year 1 and 75 hours in year 2 for the Part Time course). All PGCE entrants/applicants must have the following:- Graduates with a first degree or equivalent. A level 3 NQF qualification in their teaching subject specialism if other than their degree. Potential to complete 150 hours of teaching which may be voluntary over the course of the programme. (75 hrs in year 1 and 75 hrs in year 2 for the Part Time course).Course Content:
The qualification is made up of 6, 20 credit modules. Certificate in Education Trainees undertake 3 modules at level 1HE / 4NQF and 3 modules at level 2HE / 5NQF (first and second year degree level). PGCE Trainees undertake 3 modules at level 1HE/4NQF, 1 module at level 3HE/6NQF and 2 modules at Masters level 4HE/7NQF. The qualification comprises the following study and activities: An initial assessment of literacy, numeracy and ICT skills and commencement of a Professional Development Portfolio. Completion of the initial award 'Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector'. Module Two: Teaching and Reflecting on own Practice; including completion of teaching practice/placement within a subject specialism and up to 4 hours of observed practice. Module Three Aligning Teaching learning and Assessment. Module Four: Action Research. Module Five: Professional Values and Inclusive Practice. Module Six: Teaching and Reflecting on others Practice; including further completion of teaching practice/placement within a subject specialism and another 4 hours of observed practice.Progression Routes
Undergraduate trainees will have 120 credits at undergraduate level and can progress onto Combined Honours programmes, BA in Education and CPD Framework at the University of Central Lancashire. Post Graduate Certificate Students will have 60 credits at Masters level and can progress onto the MA in Educational Research and the MEd as well as the Post Graduate CPD Framework.Other Details
ACCREDITATION OF PRIOR LEARNING (APL) APL of a maximum of 10 credits will be given to entrants who are holders of 'Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector' (or equivalent) from any other awarding body providing it is at Level 1HE / 4NQF against the equivalent part of the Certificate programme. APL of a maximum of 20 credits will be given to entrants who are holders of a Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (Associate Lecturer role) from any other awarding body providing it is at Level 1HE / 4NQF against the equivalent part of the Certificate programme.Apply for this course online
