UCLAN PREPARING TO TEACH IN A LIFELONG LEARNING SECTOR

This qualification is open to people who have an interest in becoming a teacher, trainer or lecturer in the Lifelong Learning Sector (Post 16) or are already engaged in some form of training/teaching and want a nationally recognised certificate to help validate this role. It is an introductory programme aimed at providing the minimum standard for everyone entering the teaching profession in the lifelong learning sector (Post 16).

Entry Requirements:

Entrants/applicants must have the following:

    • 5 GCSEs at C grade or above or equivalent.
    • A level 3 National Qualifications Framework (NQF) qualification in their own subject specialism.
    • A level 2 NQF in literacy or equivalent. (GCSE English C and above).
    • The ability to verbally communicate fluently and confidently in English.


    • Course Content:

      The qualification is made up of a single 20 credit module at level 1HE and level 4 NQF (first year degree level).
      The qualification comprises the following study and activities:-

        • An introduction to the Teaching Cycle and key principles and techniques for good teaching.
        • Up to 35 hours of class contact with around 15 hours of additional study (private reading, preparation for assessment activities).
        • In class teaching practice for a minimum of one hour (micro and mini teach activity within the study group). Observation of other practitioners (2hours).


        • Progression Routes

        • Trainees who meet all of the entry requirements may progress as follows: Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (Associate Lecture Role) – subject to requiring 30 hours teaching.
        • For undergraduate entrants; The Certificate in Education Post Compulsory. For Graduate entrants; The PGCE Post Compulsory – subject to securing 150 hours of teaching.

          ACCREDITATION OF PRIOR LEARNING (APL)
          There is no APL available for this award. However, trainees who have achieved a Level 4 Threshold Award with another awarding body may be credited with this award with advanced standing, with agreement from the course tutor.
