At J R Reveley Construction all aspects of building work are undertaken - including paving, groundworks, foundations, renovations and extensions. We are a Federation of Master Builders, and always give 100% and never leave a job until their high standards are met.

"I studied at Carlisle College doing a building course and an NVQ in Bricklaying.
During my three years study I learned a variety of different skills from basic bricklaying to measuring volumes, areas and other calculations which I have found very useful when costing up a job. At the time you don’t always see the value in what the College teaches you but it is when you go out on site, you really see the importance.

My main motivation for doing my own thing is that I like a challenge. I am also skilful in what I do and take a lot of pride in my work. For example during basic site set up – the temptation when on a job is to turn up at the site and begin work straight away, but I like to spend time and set the site up, getting everything laid out and organising the lads before starting to work. I believe that if I have to spend more than two minutes trying to find a tape measure then the job’s not going well. It has got to be clean - a tidy job is a good job.

The support I am given by the College is superb and I developed an excellent relationship with my tutors. Being on my own as a boss having to teach other people is difficult. On many occasions contractors or employees ask questions which I am unsure of the answer to. At such a time I know I can contact any one of my three tutors in the evening and ask their advice, allowing me to answer the query in the morning."
