Parents Info
I am delighted that your son/daughter has chosen to continue their education at Carlisle College. Ensuring that your son or daughter has an enjoyable and successful time at College is of paramount importance to us. We have put together some information for you which we hope you will find useful.
Attendance
All students should aim for 100% attendance. If your son or daughter is unable to attend College please ring the absence line on 08003285343 before 10am. We will pass the information on to their tutor.
Disciplinary Procedure
Nearly all our students behave well and attend classes regularly. However, should there be a major disciplinary problem with your son/daughter, you will be involved with the Curriculum Head fore the area in which your child is studying.
Bullying
Carlisle College does not tolerate bullying. We have a procedure in place to deal with any issues that may arise. A member of the Student Support Services team has a particular responsibility for tackling bullying problems.
Admissions
When your son/daughter applies for a course at Carlisle College they will receive a letter acknowledging receipt of their application. This will be followed by a letter inviting them for an interview.
At the interview they will be given detailed information about the course, take an assessment to ensure they are put on the correct level of course, and have a one-to-one interview with the course tutor. Parents are welcome to attend. Having accepted a place on the course they will receive a letter in the middle of August giving instructions on starting their course.
Parents’ Evenings
We hold two Parents’ Evenings a year when you will be invited to the College to discuss your son/daughter’s progress with your tutor. You will also receive a written report.
Finance
Full-time education is free for young people up to the age of 19. Full-time students are eligible to apply for Educational Maintenance Allowance which is a weekly payment of £10, £20 or £30, depending on your household income paid during term-time.
Application packs are available form the College. Information about any other financial support will be given to your son/daughter when they start College.
Help with travel costs for students living outside Carlisle may be available from the local Education Authority or in some instances from the College.
