14-19 Year Olds Adult Learning Higher Education Apprenticeships Employers
Apprenticeships have the best of both worlds and because of this are becoming more and more popular.
Last year over 250,000 young people in England were training in over 150 different areas.
In Construction alone the industry’s Sector Skills Council stated the need to recruit and train 500,000 new entrants by 2010.
Opportunities for Apprenticeships are huge - How much of London's 2012 Olympic event will be made possible by the work of apprentices? Think about it!
If you’re 16-24 and not in full-time education. Entry requirements are flexible as practical skills and your interest in this area of work are more important than academic grades.
Usually completed in 1-2 years, but there is no set time as it depends on the area content, your ability and your employer’s requirements.
All Apprenticeships give you a chance to complete an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) Level 2 or 3, Key Skills qualification and a Technical Certificate e.g. City & Guilds, BTEC etc.
Advanced Apprenticeships (Level 3) can be used as a springboard to Foundation Degrees, Higher Education, University, use the skills gained to work abroad, etc.
An Apprenticeship is a great way to launch your career, as it’s more than just a job! You get paid, you get hands on experience and you study for relevant qualifications in the area you’re interested in.
Apprentices are employed; the employer pays your wages, gives you holidays, on-the-job training and you will also spend time in College learning new skills and new technology.
