Train to gain
Train to gain
Train to Gain is no longer available. There is however, a replacement funding stream in place to allow employers to access financial support to up skill their staff through NVQ/Diploma qualifications. These programmes are “work based” and do not require attendance at college. Alternatively, employees are highly likely to be eligible for a funded apprenticeship programme.
Who is eligible for a free work based training programme?
Candidates must be a lawful UK resident for 3 years, be over the age of 19 and working in England with a contract of employment.
Work based learning programmes are focused on members of staff that do not currently hold a full level 2 qualification. (such as NVQ 2 or higher , 5 good GCSEs at A* - C, A level, Intermediate Diploma).
What qualifications are on offer?
Most candidates take a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) or Diploma usually at level 2 and in some cases level 3 and 4, although in some circumstances a contribution from their employer towards the cost of training will be requested.
How does the programme work?
Once the programme has been discussed with the employee an individual learning plan is drawn up and agreed. This sets out the plan for training and development. An NVQ/Diploma Work Based Assessor/Reviewer is assigned to each candidate and a timetable is worked out that fits around the employee’s working day. This can include weekend and evening work if required. For experienced candidates they may only need to be assessed on their competence in the skills required by the qualification. For those with less experience a more detailed training plan will be organised to provide the candidates with the understanding that they need in order to develop their skills. No matter how the training takes place, it will be based on what skills are needed to be effective in the job and the emphasis will be on bridging the gaps between what the candidate does and doesn’t already know.
