Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety

This course is the natural progression following the completion of Health & Safety Stages 1&2 This course will develop your understanding of health and safety principles and practice and includes modules on:

  1. Health and safety organisation
  2. Health and safety law
  3. Health, safety, welfare in the environment
  4. Research, communication, problem solving

The TUC Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health at OCN Level 3 is accredited to meet the academic requirement for IOSH Technician Safety Practitioner membership

Diploma in Employment Law

This course is the natural progression following the completion of Union Reps Stages 1&2 The course: - provides guided learning through which the learner may become more effective as a workplace representative - promotes an understanding of trade union approach to employment law - deepens and extend the capacities of learners, enabling them to access full-time officer posts or Higher Education opportunities - widens and deepens understanding of trade union and workplace issues and offer up to date detail of new developments - develops personal/study skills, the ability to work collectively, and generally improve the confidence of learners to study at a higher level

Course Structure

The course is made up of 3 subject modules:

  1. The Changing Nature of Law
  2. Employment Law and the Individual
  3. Trade Union and Collective Rights

These are intended to build on from learners’ interest in trade unionism, by exploring the development and functioning of employment law, identifying key issues and questions, analysing research or other commentaries - working towards an informed opinion of the subjects of study.

Plus The subject modules are supported by 4 study skills modules:

  1. Communication and Study Skills
  2. Research Project
  3. ICT
  4. Legal Skills

The purpose of these is to enable learners to develop the kind of skills needed to make the most of the subject modules. The ability to find and understand information quickly, to take notes and write in a structured way, to analyse and use Case Law appropriately, use and communicate information will make the challenge of study more enjoyable and fulfilling.
