TUC Coping with Cancer in the Workplace:

A four day course starting 23rd September 2010 (4 x Thursdays)

Course Aims:

to help health and safety reps, union representatives, ULRs to:

  • Explore issues to be faced if a union member is diagnosed with cancer
  • Find out more about cancer, its causes and effects
  • Become familiar with employment rights and benefits and how they can be used to advise members who may be diagnosed
  • How to build up a positive attitude for work colleagues / employers toward
  • Policies and awareness raising in the form of an event, campaign or project
  • Key contacts and sources of information to be able to support and refer members to useful organisations

TUC Employment Law Update:

A five day course beginning Thursday 28th October 2010 (5 x Thursdays)

Course Aims:

A course for Union Reps to update them on current legislation or to introduce them to the content that would be worked on during the TUC Diploma in Employment Law.

  • Raise awareness of new rights at work
  • Stimulate discussion, ideas and planning on how to extend knowledge of new rights at work
  • Develop strategic thinking on using employment legislation to enhance union effectiveness

TUC Risk Assessment

A four day course starting Monday 7th March 2010 (4 x Mondays)

Course Aims:

The course will help trade union health and safety representatives to:

  • Identify the key legal requirements concerning risk assessments
  • Understand the risk assessment process
  • Relate risk assessment to strategies for improving health and safety at work
  • Use HSE assessment tools
  • Evaluate different methods of assessment
  • Understand the 'suitable and sufficient' test

TUC Disability Champions

A four day course starting Thursday 20th January 2010 (4 x Thursdays)

Course Aims:

  • To understand the Disability Discrimination Act
  • To discuss the 'social model'
  • Understand the 'language barrier'
  • Interviewing for members needs
  • Access to work
