TUC Stage 1 Courses For Trade Union Representatives
TUC Union Rep Stage 1
This basic course is for all union representatives and will help you develop the skills, knowledge and confidence you need to represent your members. The course runs for twelve weeks. As an elected Trade Union Rep / Shop Steward you have the legal right to attend this course on full pay under Section 168-(2)(b) of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992. You will learn about:
- improving facilities.
- working with other reps.
- solving workplace problems.
- handling grievances and disputes.
- participating in meetings and making reports.
- collective bargaining and agreements
TUC Health and Safety Reps Stage 1
This basic course is for all union safety reps and will help you develop the skills, knowledge and confidence you need to perform this essential role in your workplace. The course runs for twelve weeks. As an elected Trade Union Safety Rep you have the legal right to attend this course on full pay under Section 4-(2)(b) of the Safety Reps & Safety Committees (SRSC) Regulations. You will learn how to:
- identify and establish safety representatives basic rights
- improves facilities.
- identify the main hazards and problems in your workplace.
- find and use the information about safety standards in your workplace.
- undertake workplace inspections.
- develop organisations for safety.
- develop effective procedures for taking up problems
Union Learning Reps Stage 1
This five day course develops the Union Learning Representative skills, knowledge and understanding in the following areas:
- Learning/ skills opportunities which are available in the workplace
- Barriers to learning
- Skills for Life
- Identifying Members learning needs
- Training providers
- Advantages of Lifelong learning
- Understanding of equality and discrimination issues in regard to workplace learning opportunities
