Year 1 Music students tour Cumbrian schools

Next week year one Music Performance and Music Technology Students will tour schools to perform their first live gigs of their course.

Tour dates are as follows:

Stainburn School                              Monday 17 October                       

Beacon Hill School                            Wednesday 19 October                                 

College of the Arts, Carlisle            Thursday 20 October                     

The performance will feature covers of current popular music to appeal to pupils at the schools visited.

Course Tutor Lee Johnson said:
“This is the first time our students will get to perform a gig outside of the College. During the course they will have the opportunity to perform in a variety of venues including the College of the Arts and Carlisle College. The tour is designed to give our Music Performance and Music Technology students the opportunity to work on a real life project. The work is intense, but the students are responding well to the pressure which they are under to make the events a success.”

The Schools Tour is an annual project for year 1 students, which has enjoyed 5 years of success. The tour is designed to be vocationally relevant and give students the opportunity to experience life on the road in their new bands. Each year different schools are selected to take part. This will be the first tour to feature live sound recording.

Principal of Carlisle College, Moira Tattersall said:
“Our students are immensely talented young people. It is always heart-warming to see them rise to the challenge. The year 1 students have had an intensive start to the year forming new bands, new friendships and of course new music. I am sure the gigs will be a great success and I am looking forward to seeing them perform throughout the year.”

As part of the course students are required to perform a minimum of four shows as part of their on-going assessment. The eclectic mix of music performed this year is of the highest standard.
