An enormous number of teaching opportunities exist across the learning and skills sector, in organisations including further education colleges, sixth forms, adult and community learning, the National Health Service, the prison service, the police service and in private sector training organisations.

UCLan programmes are designed for those wishing to pursue a teaching career in these organisations.

Whilst these are not a school teaching qualifications there are now employment opportunities in some schools for post-16 teachers, particularly for teachers of vocational subjects. This is the non-graduate route into being a qualified teacher in the Post Compulsory sector.

The aim of the programme is to enable you to develop into an outstanding teacher. You will learn how to plan, implement, assess and evaluate teaching and undertake a full teaching role.

All course work is related to the actual teaching practice situation.

Teaching is a challenging but rewarding profession, one where you will use your enthusiasm, and talents to really make a difference. Our courses will equip you to educate and influence your learners and help them fulfil their potential.

College Teaching Team

The College has its own teacher education tutors with a wide range of experience of teaching.

These tutors are supported by the UCLan teacher education team, who manage and develop the programmes and provide continuing professional development for tutors.

UCLAN Intermediate Certificate in Teaching, Learning and Assessment

An enormous number of teaching opportunities exist across the learning and skills sector, in organisations including further education colleges, sixth forms, adult and community learning, the National Health Service, the prison service, the police service and in private sector training organisations.

UCLan programmes are designed for those wishing to pursue a teaching career in these organisations.

The programmes offer a sound introduction to teaching, giving you an integrated overview of the theory and practice of teaching.

The range of courses offers a starting point for everyone, whether you want to get into teaching or already work as a teacher but do not have a teaching qualification.

All course work is related to the actual teaching practice situation.

Your teaching placement (paid or voluntary) is a central feature of the introductory and intermediate programmes.

Comprising 3 modules, this programme is particularly suitable if you do not need a full teaching qualification such as the Cert Ed/PGCE, but would like to leave the way open to progress to the full award in the future.

The range of courses offers a starting point for everyone, whether you want to get into teaching or already work as a teacher but do not have a teaching qualification.

All course work is related to the actual teaching practice situation.

Your teaching placement (paid or voluntary - 30 hours) is a central feature of the introductory and intermediate programmes.

This Certificate is suitable for anyone who has a limited role in teaching, training and tutoring, or where teaching /training is not the main part of your job. Focusing on reflective practice, the course will support you in developing links between educational theory and practical application in your teaching practice.
