College set to host ‘Engineer The Future’ event

Ensuring that Cumbria’s engineering businesses and students are better prepared for the future is main aim of a prestigious event being hosted by Carlisle College in February called ‘Engineer The Future’.
The event, which is being held on 22 February between 6pm and 8.30pm at the Victoria Place campus has been organised by Colin Luhrs, Head of Engineering and Technical Services and is open to all engineering businesses across the region with a view to them gaining an insight into the future engineering needs of industry.

Carlisle College student embarks on her ‘American Dream’ with a scholarship from AMDA Hollywood

Carlisle College student Heather Collingwood will shortly be leaving Cumbria to pursue her dreams in Hollywood, Los Angeles at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
Heather who is studying for her Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts at the College of the Arts received the news that her application had been successful on 12 December 2011.

‘Lights, Camera, Action!’ for Students at Carlisle College

Carlisle College has a great reputation for providing its students with real life experiences as part of every course. The College of the Arts (part of Carlisle College) is no exception.
Students studying their National Diploma in Media have just completed work on a live professional project with award winning folk band Bellowhead. The DVD on which the students worked went on national release on 28 November and is available from retailers including Amazon, Tesco and HMV.

Carlisle College ‘Mo’s’ prepare for the big shave off

A team from Carlisle College has been taking part in the annual ‘Movember’ campaign. The team of 9 staff at the College have so far raised over £800 for the cause and are hoping to reach £1000 before it closes.
Every year in November, ‘Movember’ is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on the faces of thousands of men throughout the UK. The aim is to raise funds and awareness of for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

Interactive story time at Carlisle College

Level 2 Childcare students at Carlisle College are getting ready to host a special event for Children from the City’s nurseries at the new campus at Victoria Place on Thursday afternoon.
Hosted in the Concept Classroom, students are preparing a series of interactive story telling activities for groups of children to learn from and take part in. The event will include performance, story books and story boards, each with a key message designed to teach the young guests key lessons.

Future CSI specialists from Carlisle College who are studying Level 3 BTEC Applied Science (Forensic Science) and BTEC Public Services will be undertaking an investigation of a simulated crime scene testing the skills and theory that they’ve been learning in the classroom.

College holds ‘Right Choice’ event as part of Colleges Week

Carlisle College is calling for local parents to help as new research reveals that fewer than half of pupils preparing for their GCSEs receive specialist advice on post-exam options. The College has put out this call as research released today by the Association of Colleges, shows considerable confusion among young people about their post-GCSE options. A half of Year 10 pupils surveyed were unable to name more than two post-GCSE qualifications; a quarter could only name one.
