If you are interested in the field of computing and are unsure which specialism or have interest in more than one area, this course is for you!
The available option modules include programming, networking and general computing.
On completion of this programme, you can progress onto a Masters (MSc) and further specialise in your selected area of computing or move into employment within the industry.
This course can open a number of different doors for you depending on module choices you make; you could gain employment as a systems developer, website developer, applications developer, network engineer or IT analyst.
As part of our work ready guarantee, you will develop your skills in our dedicated, self-contained computing lab, which is on an internal network and contains some of the latest security equipment and software. You'll have guest lectures and Q&A sessions with experts from a range of employers including Cumbria Police.

This programme is for applicants who have recently achieved a Foundation Degree in a computing discipline, such as Computing, ICT Support, Web Development and Management, Games Development, Computer Forensics, Computing for Games and Interactive Media, Network and Security Technologies, Software Applications Development or a closely-related subject, and would like to top up their qualification to an Honours Degree in order to gain the skills and knowledge needed to develop a successful career in their specialist area, across a broad range of disciplines. This course is designed for Higher Education applicants wishing to enter computing employment or progress to a Masters (MSc) programme. This is a one-year full-time course which will prepare you for the challenges and developments in the computing industry. There is a significant demand for people who can design, develop, implement and manage networked environments, develop websites and software applications, design and develop database applications, and create interactive multimedia-based applications, therefore the course has been developed in consultation with key computing contacts throughout the region so you’ll get relevant, career-focussed tuition in a good range of computing areas.

Extra Studies:You will learn through a variety of different methods including: Written practical assignments, work-based projects, presentations, vivas, peer work, and independent study.
You will be assessed in a variety of different ways including reports, essays, presentations, practical tasks and individual academic research which allow students to showcase their knowledge and skills to best effect. There will also be a Dissertation / Project.
- A relevant Foundation Degree or the Level 5 equivalent (HND, Diploma in Higher Education),
- Applicants are normally expected to have achieved grade 4 (C) in GCSE Maths and English Language or the Level 2 equivalents,
- Mature students (age 21) will be considered only based on relevant industry experience,
- Applicants for whom English Language is not their first language are expected to achieve a minimum IELTS Score of 6.0 or the nationally recognised equivalent.

There are no additional course cost requirements to successfully complete, however we would recommend that you purchase an external hard drive for storage and have access to a reasonable computer system at home so that you can carry out independent study.
