PGCE - Young People and Adult Learning Specialists

This programme has been designed to meet the demand for a postgraduate route into post compulsory teaching to closely meet the needs of graduates. The course will give trainee teachers the skills and confidence they need to become an effective teacher

It is aimed at graduates either currently in / or seeking to pursue a career in the wider education sector and it has been informed by the most recent developments in educational research and government policy.

Trainee teachers will analyse the many changes currently affecting the further education sector and will develop their knowledge of various teaching approaches and techniques to become a skilled and reflective teacher. It supports trainees to transition into relevant careers and / or progress in their educational roles as teachers committed to their own professional development. Furthermore, it actively promotes inclusion, social justice through their current and future practice.

This course focuses on developing teaching skills, and not on the subject intended to teach. For this reason, trainee teachers are expected to have a good understanding of their chosen subject(s) before starting training. PGCE Young People and Adult Specialists is a Level 7 (Masters Level) programme.

Diploma of Higher Education: Education and Training

The DET is a level 5 programme and is designed to meet the needs of non-graduates that are wishing to teach their specialist subject. It is aimed at vocational specialists either currently in/or seeking to pursue a career in the wider education sector and it has been informed by the most recent developments in educational research and government policy.

It focuses on developing teaching skills, and not on the subject intended to teach. For this reason, trainee teachers are expected to have a good understanding of their chosen subject(s) before starting training. The course will give trainee teachers the skills and confidence they need to become an effective teacher within the post 16 sector.

Part Time

BTEC Level 3 Award in Education and Training

Teacher Training

The L3 Award in Education and Training is an introductory teaching qualification.

Completion of this qualification will provide assurances that new teaching staff members have the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare, plan, deliver and evaluate basic teaching and learning sessions, in a variety of teaching or training contexts.

This qualification is based around preparing and delivering a micro–teach session and may be undertaken by individuals who are not in a teaching role as there is no minimum teaching practice requirements. This makes it suitable for all Teaching Assistants with no teaching responsibilities.
