Carlisle College is proud to announce that Nathan Ball, Adult Learning Manager, has won the Educational Champion in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award at the Diverse Cumbria Awards 2025.
Nathan attended the event with ESOL Lecturer Shoma Gupta, who nominated Nathan for his award. Shoma praised Nathan for his outstanding commitment to making education inclusive, fair, and accessible for all.
In his role, Nathan not only manages Adult Learning but also oversees the ESOL provision at the college, supporting a wide range of learners, including many asylum seekers and refugees. He has been recognised for consistently going above and beyond to remove barriers to education, ensuring that students and staff from all backgrounds feel respected, represented, and safe.
From developing including curriculum and running workshops, to building strong partnerships with external organisations and leading community engagement programmes, Nathan's work demonstrates his dedication to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Nathan's unwavering support to learners extends beyond the classroom, offering mentorship, mental health support, and opportunities for students to celebrate their identities and cultural heritage.
"Nathan doesn't just talk about equality, diversity, and inclusion - he lives it every day" said Shoma Gupta in her nomination. "He inspires others to think differently, do better, and ensures that everyone has a voice and a sense of belonging."
The Diverse Cumbria Awards celebrate individuals and organisations across the county who are driving positive change in equality, diversity and inclusion.
Well done Nathan, we are all very proud of your hard work and commitment to making Carlisle College's education inclusive, fair, and accessible for everyone.
