The plastering and interior fit-out sector came together on 25 November 2025 at the Plaisterers Hall in London to celebrate excellence at the annual FIS Training Awards, held in collaboration with the Worshipful Company of Plaisterers. Among the standout winners was Jake Waite, who proudly took home the JG Robinson Trophy, recognising his exceptional achievements as an apprentice in plastering.

Jake’s journey is a testament to hard work and ambition. Starting as a Level 1 student at Carlisle College, he quickly progressed, securing an apprenticeship with Wannop for his Level 2 studies. His commitment and talent have earned him numerous accolades, including first place at NCG Skills, third in SkillBuild regional heats, and the prestigious title of British Gypsum Apprentice of the Year 2024.

Training adviser Marshall Parkinson praised Jake’s dedication:
“Jake’s maturity and positive attitude make him a standout candidate for this award. He has shown a genuine desire to succeed in plastering, achieving 92% attendance and 100% punctuality in college. He’s an asset to his class, always ready to help classmates and create a healthy competitive environment.”

Jake’s professionalism extends beyond the classroom. His site manager commended his work ethic:
“He is never late for work, always conscientious, and works to a high standard – you never see him on his phone. We must thank his parents for bringing up such a polite, friendly guy!”

The judges echoed these sentiments, highlighting Jake’s aspirational attitude, competitive drive, and high-level practical skills. His success in competitions and consistent performance on site and in college set him apart as a model apprentice.

Jake’s achievement is not only a personal triumph but also an inspiration for aspiring plasterers across the industry. His story exemplifies the values celebrated by the FIS Training Awards – skill, dedication, and professionalism.
