The Access to HE Diploma is a nationally recognised qualification for adult students (aged over 19). It is designed to provide the skills, knowledge and confidence required to progress onto a degree or diploma in Higher Education (HE). The course has excellent links with all local providers of higher education and universities nationally. The Humanities and Social Sciences pathway is appropriate for those wanting to go into social work and other social science professions. It will provide the academic knowledge for learners to move onto studying a range of social science HE courses.

You will attend college 3 days a week from 9:15-4:30. These will all be taught classes where you will work within a group of adults who are planning to progress to Higher Education or University in a supportive but challenging environment. On one day you will have a regular meeting with your course tutor to discuss your progress, any issues, and provide additional academic support. Your progress will be carefully monitored, supported and reviewed. You will find yourself in a friendly environment where close personal support, professional advice and guidance are readily available.
There will be a wide variety of assessment methods including essays, exams and academic posters.
- GCSE Maths and English at grades C and above or equivalent such as Level 2 Functional Skills. Please note that if you do hold a GCSE equivalent (rather than having an grade C or above at GCSE) and you are planning to progress to a specific University, it is recommended that you check that they will accept your GCSE equivalent qualifications. Awarding Body AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group 19+ students will be eligible to apply for the 19+ Advanced learner loan, this will be written off once students complete their university degree.
A range of different social science degrees including social work, psychology, sociology, criminology and forensics.
