Support your child with their career choices – a parent’s guide

It is now well established that young people are required to remain in some form of education or training until the age of 18 – but this does not mean your child must stay at school after their GCSEs.

Research confirms that adolescents and young people, place a high value on the opinions and views of their parents or guardians when it comes to making critical careers choices.

Tutorials

Your son or daughter will meet regularly with their Tutor who will offer support on many issues that can affect their student life and experience. These meetings include group and one-to-one sessions and cover topics including personal safety, health and social issues. The tutorial programme, which is delivered by our team of Progress Coaches, also helps students prepare for the next stage of life, whether it is work, another course or University.

Progress Reviews

Course Tutors will organise these one-to-one reviews during the year to help monitor student progress. Support is given to ensure that every student has the best chance of success and can achieve their full potential. It is also an opportunity for students to discuss any issues they have at College.

Parents Evening

Parents and Carers (for full time students under the age of 18) will be invited to meet with staff on Parents’ Evenings. This will include an opportunity to discuss progress at College. Written reports will be sent to Parents and Carers of students under the age of 18.
