The CACHE course is intended to prepare learners to work with children (up to the age of 7 years) and their families in a variety of settings and environments within the sector of children’s services.
On successfully completing the two-year course, the learner will achieve practitioner status, with a (licence to practice) in the early years setting.
This course is equivalent to three A-Levels and is gained through a combination of college-based study and work placement.
There is a minimum requirement of 750 hours work placement required to complete the 2-year course.
The CACHE course helps to prepare students for a number of career pathways including teaching, social work and working in nurseries. The course ensures that learners graduate as confident and skilful childcare practitioners. Students are provided with an appropriate range of opportunities and experiences that inspire them and help successfully transition into the next stage of education, training or employment. Studying the Childcare curriculum enables students to enter the workforce, or access higher education. It provides students with knowledge of children from birth to seven years and gives them the opportunity to enter the work place as Early Years Educators.
Students will learn;

- Plan, lead and review play opportunities which support childrens learning and development in relation to current frameworks
- Apply theoretical perspectives and philosophical approaches to play
- Contribute to enabling play environments
- Develop emergent literacy skills of children
- Develop emergent mathematical skills of children
- Understand the needs of children in preparing for school
- Understand how to plan to meet the needs of the developing child
- Facilitate the cognitive development of children
- Develop the speech, language and communication of children
- Promote the physical development of children
- Promote the personal, social and emotional development of children
- Support children with additional needs
- Use longitudinal studies to observe, asses and plan for childrens need
- Use Observation, assessment and planning to promote the development of children
Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care (Early Years Educator)
Extra Studies:You will attend college 2 days per week plus 2 days practical placement. You will work in a variety of settings including childminders, nurseries, pre-schools and schools, and will be involved in a variety of trips related to the sector. A variety of outside / guest speakers will also be invited to speak to students providing an insight into the sector.
You will be assessed by observation in placement, a portfolio of evidence, a short exam, external assignment and longitudinal study.
- 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) and above, including Maths and English,
- or
- Level 2 Vocational qualification at Merit or Distinction and Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English,
- or
- Scottish equivalent,
- Mature Students with relevant experience and / or other qualifications may be eligible.
- The course requires students to undertake a work placement, which may involve work with children or vulnerable adults, therefore applicants who are not already in relevant employment will be required to obtain a State of Discloser from the Disclosure Barring Service (DBS),
- In addition, you must also have two references.

You will have a qualification to practice in the sector. Proceed to University with a potential of 280 UCAS points.
