The AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Foundation course is an entry-level accounting qualification, ideal for anyone who is seeking an introduction to basic accounting principles and skills.

The AAT are the UK’s leading professional body for vocational accountants. Working across the globe with around 130,000 members in more than 90 countries. AAT member are represented at every level of the finance and accounting world, including students, people already working in accountancy and self-employed business owners.

This qualification covers the basic principles of ledger accounting and methods of recording financial transactions. Learners will gain an understanding of both manual and computerised accounting systems and is suitable for people with little or no previous accounting qualifications or experience.

This course will run on alternate Tuesdays 9am-1pm, with one week on campus and the following week is blended learning.

How often does this course run?

This course runs once per year starting in September.

You will be notified of the start date once you have submitted your application.

Entry requirements

No minimum entry requirements although GCSEs at grade 4 (C) and above in English and Maths are recommended
The Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping or Business Skills would also be an advantage prior to starting this course
Students will also need to apply for student membership with AAT to be able to complete the programme, the registration fee is currently £155 for new students. Assessments can only be sat if you are a member of the AAT

How is the course taught?

We have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver our AAT courses.

The delivery model is called Online and On Campus. This model has been running successfully for a number of years.

Students will study online lessons, comprising video lectures and questions to check your learning.

You will learn the main concepts online via Mindful Education virtual learning environment and then attend an on-campus workshop (whether face to face or remotely).

We will consolidate your learning and pick up on any areas that we feel need particular focus.

The workshops are run on a fortnightly basis. The weeks you are not on campus are independent self-study as directed by Mindful Education and your course programme. Learners are required to attend all sessions.
