Carlisle College is celebrating an outstanding evening of success after taking home three prestigious awards at the Golden Apple Awards 2026, recognising excellence in education across Cumbria.
The college was proud to have six finalists shortlisted across a range of categories, reflecting the exceptional talent, dedication and commitment of colleagues and learners across the organisation.
The evening proved particularly memorable as Carlisle College secured wins in three highly competitive categories:
- Garry Murray - Apprentice/Graduate of the Year
- Dan Smith - Best Teaching Professional
- Shabina Moghal - Support Staff of the Year
Shabina very sadly passed away earlier this year, and we would like to thank her daughter, Sophie, for joining us for the evening to receive the award on Shabina's behalf.
In addition to these fantastic achievements, the college was delighted to see the following individuals and teams recognised as finalists:
- Julian Nightingale - Against All Odds
- 16-19 ESOL Team - Best Inclusion Initiative
- Helen Thomson - Education Professional Newcomer
The awards celebrate the outstanding contributions of educators, support staff and learners who make a positive impact on education across the county. Carlisle College's success highlights the passion, expertise and dedication demonstrated daily by its staff and students.
Simon Ross, Principal at Carlisle College, said:
"We are absolutely delighted with this year's results and incredibly proud of all our finalists. To receive three Golden Apple Awards is a testament to the hard work, commitment and talent of our colleagues and learners. Every finalist should be immensely proud of their achievement in being shortlisted, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Garry, Dan and Shabina's family."
The college would like to congratulate all finalists and winners from across Cumbria who were recognised during the evening and thank the organisers for another fantastic celebration of educational excellence.
As Carlisle College continues to support learners in achieving their ambitions, these awards serve as a powerful recognition of the positive difference being made by staff and students every day.
Congratulations to all our finalists and award winners on this incredible achievement. 🎉🏆
