Carlisle College was delighted to welcome ITV Border to campus this week as part of a special feature highlighting our successful partnership with Cumbria Police through the Cars for Colleges initiative.
The film crew spent the morning in our Motor Vehicle workshops, capturing students at work and interviewing three of our learners, our course tutor, head of curriculum, and representatives from the Cumbria Police team. Their visit formed part of ITV News Lookaround, where the segment showcased the hands‑on learning opportunities being created through this unique collaboration.
Real Vehicles, Real Learning
Through the Cars for Colleges scheme, Cumbria Police donate seized vehicles - often recovered due to offences such as driving without insurance or a valid licence - to Carlisle College. These vehicles provide invaluable real‑world training opportunities for our Motor Vehicle students, enabling them to develop technical confidence and industry‑ready skills using authentic workshop scenarios.
The initiative has already had a significant impact, strengthening the relationship between the College and local policing teams while supporting the next generation of automotive professionals.
A Positive Spotlight on Student Success
During the visit, ITV Border filmed students carrying out practical tasks, spoke with staff about the benefits of the partnership, and explored how these donated vehicles are transforming learners’ experiences.
The feature, which aired on ITV News Lookaround, highlighted the ongoing work taking place across Carlisle College to enrich student learning, deepen community engagement, and drive forward positive change within the region.
A Collaborative Achievement
We extend our thanks to everyone involved - from our Motor Vehicle staff and students to the Cumbria Police team and ITV Border crew - for helping to showcase the fantastic opportunities available here at Carlisle College. Moments like this reflect our commitment to providing high‑quality education, practical experience, and strong community partnerships.
