Tim Whitmarsh
Uniformed Protective Services Tutor
Tim joined us as a lecturer in 2022. Prior to joining Carlisle College, Tim was a PE teacher for over 20 years in secondary schools in Suffolk, Derbyshire, Cumbria, Northumberland, and the Isle of Wight. He has an extensive background in sport and outdoor pursuits, having studied both for his teaching degree in Plymouth. Alongside his studies, Tim has served on two mountain rescue teams in Northern England and Mid Wales. He has trained and attended 999 emergency call-outs in most of England and Wales’s most mountainous regions. He has been a keen climber, kayaker, and sailor throughout his life and is a qualified instructor in many outdoor pursuits. He has explored the mountains, rivers and seas of the UK, Europe, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Tim has competed in many sports. Triathlon has played a significant part in his life, competing, coaching, and volunteering. He has worked at the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. His greatest achievement was being appointed as GB Team manager for British Triathlons Long Distance World Championship team. He managed the team at multiple World Championships including Australia and the USA.
