About the Course

This course is ideal for people who want to improve their literacy skills.

A Functional Skill in English includes improving speaking and listening skills, reading and writing.

Course Content

You will identify the main points and ideas in a variety of texts, written for a variety of purposes. You will construct extended pieces of writing in a variety of forms, employing spelling, grammar and punctuation accurately. You will make relevant and extended contributions in discussions, as well as presenting information clearly.

Method of Study

A typical ESOL lesson focuses on the Communicative Method of study which is mainly student centred with a strong emphasis on group and pair work to maximise opportunities to practice the target language. This is assisted by teacher input consisting of explanations, examples and error correction.

End of year examination with progress assignments and homework
