Entry requirements

Candidates require Level 1 Maths and English (equivalent to GCSE grade 3 (D) or above).

What will I achieve?

Upon successful completion of this course you will achieve a Level 2 Painter and Decorator Apprenticeship Standard.

What will I learn?

Different work methods. - This involves working with brush and roller, wallpaper application using standard width & wide width papers including all match types including intricate patterns, raised patterns and anaglyptas. Specialist decorative techniques including marbling & graining & HVLP spray application.
How to identify and respond to customer needs - This involves methods of formal and informal communication with customers, working to time frames, advising customers on the most appropriate products for jobs, costing, pricing and budgeting.
Different construction industry work scenarios key factors and ways of needing to work in different sectors such as schools, hospitals and properties where residents are present. How and what is needed to take on and complete work in different projects, such as full refurbishments, new builds to heritage buildings.
Building methods covering new build and heritage buildings, internal and external works
Product and specification information. Covering different materials, uses, COSHH.
Preparation of different surfaces, application and removal methods of both paints and wallpaper. Covering how to prepare surfaces, correct tools and equipment to use, safe use of tools and equipment.

Where can I progress?

After successfully completing this apprenticeship, you will be a Qualified Painter and Decorator and can progress into higher positions within the industry, such as site management, or continue your studies with a HNC or HND. You may also be able to become a self-employed Painter and Decorator.

English and maths

Individuals who have not yet achieved a Level 2 in English and/or Maths will be taught this alongside their course to work towards achieving their Level 2, enabling you to progress your career in the future.

For those who have achieved their Maths & English at Level 2, these skills are embedded within course content.

Apprenticeship pay

Your employer will pay you Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage as a minimum, in line with national minimum wage regulations. Your rate of pay will be agreed with your employer.
