Do you have a passion for the automotive industry? Taught by industry experts, you can build the foundations to a great career and develop new skills and knowledge.

The course allows you to start building your skills and knowledge using our fully equipped workshop, where you can apply theory to practice working on a variety of vehicles. You will get to carry out basic routine vehicle maintenance, skills in health and safety in the workshop as well as wheels and tyre systems.

All students start at Level 1, as Motor Vehicle is a practical, skills-based course. This allows you to develop the essential knowledge and hands-on skills needed before progressing. Once you have successfully completed Level 1, you will have the opportunity to progress to Level 2 and then Level 3.

What will I achieve?

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a Level 1 Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance.

Work experience opportunities

You will have an opportunity to spend some time with local employers to develop your practical skills and professional, industry behaviours with employers such as Mercedes-Benz Carlisle.

You may also be able to get involved with employer projects. This year, students have worked with Mercedes-Benz to develop their industry skills through project work around design and implementation of vehicles and racetracks.

English and Maths

English and maths is taught alongside this course to help you enhance your skills. The course will help you build on your skills in a practical setting. You will learn how to calculate quantities of paint and wallpaper required to complete tasks.

Where can I progress?

Upon successful completion of this course you could progress onto Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance.

If you are aged 16-18 when you begin your course you are likely to be eligible for free tuition. Detailed information can be found within the financial support section.
