About the Course

BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Business has been designed as an introductory for students who want to study business. The knowledge, understanding and skills learned studying in this BTEC level 2 will aid progression to further study to a level 3 course or enter the workplace.

This qualification is intended primarily for students aged between 14-19age group, but they may also be used by other students who wish to gain an introductory qualification in business.

There is a clear progression route to a level 3 course or an apprenticeship.

BTEC’s are vocationally related qualifications where leaners develop knowledge and understanding by applying their learning and skills in a work-related context.

Qualification Aims; Give learners the opportunity to gain broad knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the Business sector, Support progression to specialised Level 3 qualifications in Business, or to an Apprenticeship, Give learners the potential opportunity, in due course, to enter employment in a wide range of job roles, Add breadth to learners’ knowledge and understanding of the Business sector as part of their career progression and development plans, Support learners who have had some achievement in their Key Stage 4 programme and who wish to ‘top up’ their Level 2 achievement to progress to employment or other qualifications.

This course will enable learners to take responsibility for their own learning and to develop skills that are essential for the modern-day workplace. These skills include: teamworking; working from a prescribed brief; working to deadlines; presenting information effectively; and accurately completing administrative tasks and processes

Course Content

A full-time programme composed of 7 units covering a variety of areas of business in order to develop knowledge to support progression onto the level 3 programme. Alongside the qualification students are required to complete GCSE Maths / English qualifications. Students will undertake two exams during the year programme as well as completing assignment work on a further five units.

Method of Study

Students on this course will learn through a variety of methods including practical, lectures, projects, case studies, presentations and many more designed to equip learners with the skills required to achieve in Business. All students enrolled onto this course will be expected to undertake home study.

Method of Assessment

Assessment methods includes a variety of methods and styles suited to skills and occupationally based qualifications at this level. The style of assessment draws on the learning throughout the qualification and assessments are graded using a scale of pass, merit and distinction. Students will also be assessed through; Examination, Written reports, Presentations, Role Plays, Exam, Observations, Case Studies.

Entry Requirements
  • 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 (D) and above, including Maths and English at Grade 3 (D) or above.

What Can I Do Next?

There is the option to progress on to level 3 Diploma in Business, enter employment or to take up an apprenticeship on successful completion of this course.

Course content would be suitable for those aspiring for careers such as, but not limited to Marketing, Customer Services or Human Relations.
