Law and Legal Work - Level 2

• 4 GCSEs at grade 3 including maths and English

You will also be invited to meet our teaching team before starting the course to participate in an applicant event, where we ca discuss entry grades and suitability to the course. 

By completing this course, you will:

Gain a Level 2 qualification in Law and Legal Work and a clear understanding of how the law works in real life situations – from courts and criminal cases to policing, consumer rights and family law.

Alongside legal knowledge, you’ll build key skills including communication, research, problem solving and confidence in presenting ideas. This course prepares you for Level 3 study, apprenticeships or careers linked to law and public services.

• How the English legal system works, including courts, judges, solicitors and barristers
• The difference between criminal and civil law and how cases move through the courts
• The powers of the police and the rights of individuals
• Key areas of criminal law and procedure
• How the law protects people as consumers, employees and family members
• How laws are made and changed in the UK
• How to use case studies to apply the law to real life situations
• Skills in research, communication, problem solving and legal reasoning

• Through realistic, hands on practical work in labs and simulated crime scenes.
• Classroom lessons to build knowledge in core science and investigative theory.
• Workshops, demonstrations and scenario based activities.
• Opportunity for employer involvement such as guest speakers from police, fire services or forensic labs.
• A mix of group work, independent study, research tasks and practical skills development.

• Internally assessed coursework – no final exam
• A range of assignments, such as case studies, reports, presentations and role play tasks
• Assessment based on completing real life legal scenarios
• Work marked by your tutors throughout the course
• You must meet all assessment criteria to achieve a Pass grade
• Ongoing support and feedback to help you succeed

You are expected to take part in work experience and employer engagement as part of your course and engage with local employers to embed knowledge and skills. 

English and maths is embedded in the course to help you enhance your skills. You will also work towards GCSE English and maths as part of your study programme at the college.

On successful completion of this course, there is an option to progress onto Level 3 Criminology and Law, or Level 3 Uniformed Protective Services.
