Are you looking to advance your skills in carpentry and joinery? Do you want to take your experience in the industry further? If you’re looking to establish yourself as a competent and skilled Joiner, this Level 3 apprenticeship is for you.

This occupation includes two different options and people will either work on a construction site as a Craft Site Carpenter or in a workshop as a Craft Architectural Joiner. You will develop advanced skills on this Carpentry and Joinery apprenticeship, including complex roofing, dormers and floor joists, fitting double doors, bespoke kitchens, detailed mouldings, refurbishment and repair work, and assembling components with woodworking machines.

Working alongside industry-experienced tutors and qualified tradesmen in industry, you will learn the enhanced skills you need to be a competent and skilled Carpenter and Joiner whilst learning in college and in a real-life working environment.

Entry requirements

Candidates require Level 2 Maths and English (equivalent to GCSE grade 4 (C) or above).

What will I achieve?

Upon successful completion of this course you will achieve a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard in Craft Carpentry and Joinery.

What will I learn?

Health, safety and welfare in the workplace
Estimating quantities and price work
Confirming the occupational methods of work in the workplace
Confirming work activities and resources for the occupational work area in the workplace
Developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships in the workplace
Installing bespoke first fixing components – installing frames, partitions and stairs with turns (none - 90 degrees)
Apply craft architectural techniques to create shaped work using specialist jigs and fixed machinery
Improving knowledge on fire door safety and fire stopping
Apple craft Architectural joinery techniques to produce and assemble window with curved head and non-standard (non - 90 degrees) window bars
Installing bespoke second fixing components – fitting doors, bespoke kitchens, detailed mouldings
Environmental management systems and standards
Different energy efficiencies of insulation products
Purpose and use of digital design and modelling systems (BIM)
Planning, work scheduling, time management
Complex roofing techniques
Maintenance and repair techniques
Carry out structural carcassing – complex roofing dormers and floor joists
Maintaining non-structural and structural components in the workplace – repair joists, rafters, guttering and windows
Set up and use power tools – circular saw, mitre saw, router and planer
Practical and technical theory required by the qualified site carpenter/joiner

Where can I progress?

After successfully completing this Level 3 Carpentry and Joinery apprenticeship, you can continue your career in industry, with roles such as Site Supervisor, Site Manager or in self-employment.

English and maths

No formal Maths & English study is required for apprentices who have met the entry requirements for this apprenticeship, although Maths & English skills are embedded within course content.

Apprenticeship pay

Your employer will pay you Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage as a minimum, in line with national minimum wage regulations. Your rate of pay will be agreed with your employer.
