Foundation Learning

Our Foundation Learning courses offer you a route into the vocational area of your choice and focus on both your personal and educational progression. We offer a supportive atmosphere to help you develop your skills and interests, and build your confidence. Successfully completing these courses will allow you to progress to further education in your preferred subject.

Skills for Further Learning and Employment – Entry 2

The Skills for Independence and Work courses will enable students to gain a qualification at Entry 2, based on skills for further learning and employment, with support.

The Skills for Independence and Work courses will enable students to gain an Entry 2 and / or Entry 3 Certificate in Employability Skills with support as well as take Functional Skills Maths and English qualifications delivered in a fun way.

Ike Thompson

Ike has been at Carlisle College for 4 years, He started on Entry 3 Skills for Employment and then progressed to both Levels 1 and 2 in Customer Service. During that time he achieved a Grade 3 in Maths and a Grade 2 in English. In September 2024 he started on the Supported Internship course. His dream was always to work in retail and he was able to secure a placement at Center Parcs (with support from Right2Work). During his last year at college he completed his Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene in Catering certificate, participated in a virtual interview as part of the National Interview Month initiative, in partnership with YourGamePlan (YGP) and accomplished training sessions in Prevent, and an Hour of Code. His confidence has grown tremendously and he was able to apply for a position at Center Parcs. Ike performed very well in his interview and was offered a job at Center Parcs which he eagerly accepted. We are all very proud of Ike and what he has achieved. Ike said, "I'm really happy to get a job in a place that I love."
