If you are caring, compassionate and want to make a difference to the lives of others, this Health and Social Care course will build your confidence, understanding and knowledge.
This study programme provides an opportunity to equip individuals with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills for success in employment in the caring field. It is designed for those who wish to work in a care setting e.g., a residential or care home.
You will explore career opportunities / next steps relating to the healthcare sector. You will be able to identify and develop key work skills which will support the you within the healthcare sector. Learners will develop a greater understanding of the Healthcare sector – how the Healthcare sector operates, roles within the Healthcare sector, mental health illnesses, etc. Learners will also develop an understanding of how Maths and English is used within the students’ target industry and everyday life.

Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Employment, Training and Personal Development – Health and Social Care
Extra Studies:Functional skills, or GCSE in Maths and English
You will learn through a system of lectures, discussions, group work, assignments, individual research, individual support and practical work experience.
Assessment is achieved through project work, assignments and mandatory work experience (45 minimum hours). At the end of the course, you will have produced a portfolio.
- 4 GCSEs at grade D (3) and above, including Maths and English,
- or
- Level 1 vocational qualification at Merit
- or
- Distinction and Level 1 qualifications in Maths and English
- or
- Scottish equivalent
- The course requires students to undertake a work placement, which may involve work with children or vulnerable adults
- Applicants who do not have a current DBS criminal check will be required to obtain one through the College
- In addition, you must also have two references and pass a vocational related assessment
- Please note that entry requirements and course offer can be subject to change at any time.
The course can lead on to the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, Work Based Learning NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care, or other similar qualification in a related area.
The course may also lead straight to employment in registered care homes, housing, community work and the voluntary sector, hospitals and primary care trusts.
