This course is designed to develop industry practice at level 2 and caters for students aged 16-18, with or without experience of performance.
The units of study are combined to make performance projects and are continuously assessed through practical workshops, performances and written blog assignments throughout the year. You will be provided feedback throughout the course to help support your improvement from each assessment to the next.
You will explore acting, dance and singing throughout the year, and in the final term you will be able to, with guidance, select a specialist area that you feel will give you the best opportunity to showcase your skills.
Alongside these creative projects you will develop employability skills through Group Tutorial sessions which cover topics such as preparing for work, volunteering, preparing a CV, practicing interview skills and going out on work experience to broaden your future opportunities.
Maths and English are also a compulsory part of your study programme if you have not already achieved a grade 4 /C at GCSE. If you have achieved a grade 4/ C in one of the subjects then you will take part in the Carlisle College Skills Builder programme designed to give you time to develop theory and practical elements of the course.
UAL Level 2 Performing and Production Arts consists of exploring performance and production elements of the performing arts industry, and being taught and trained to industry standards. You will be required to research job roles within the industry and progression routes into areas which interest you. Practical sessions are developmental during Units 1-7 and require students to reflect and evaluate their own skills and how these can be developed effectively. This work is done through practical workshops and theory sessions developing both practical and written work. You will research various forms of performance styles and the types of audience who watch shows and how these shows are designed to engage. You will be asked research progression routes and prepare audition material for Unit 8 and launch your website as a professional showreel to an intended audience. Units 1-8 will be graded at Pass or fail and given bronze, silver or gold marks against each discipline. Your Final Major Project will be Graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction. This Unit allows students to focus on their area of strength of performance. Students must perform to a live audience during the year, these performances include the initial showcase of developmental work, Musical theatre and FMP. Viewing shows a vital part of the development of every performer and you will be asked to participate in trips to see live theatre performances during the academic year, and participate in guest workshops which help develop your skills and understanding further. You will be asked to complete work experience as part of you course agreement and this will have to relate to the industry.
