The sport sector is a fast-growing industry. It is currently worth £39 billion to the economy and continues to grow annually. Coaching is an area that continues to expand, with up to 3.1 million adults in England estimated to having coached sport or physical activity in the previous 12 months, providing 7.6 million coach-led participation experiences per week.
This qualification is equivalent in size to 3 ‘A Levels’, with the potential to gain up to 168 UCAS points for those wishing to study further at University. This course is best suited for those wanting to progress into roles such as Sports Coaching, PE Teaching or Sports Development.
This course has been designed to equip learners with the appropriate skills, knowledge and behaviours to be able to succeed in the sports industry. Course content reflects the requirements of a modern-day coach, leader or sport developer; allowing them to plan effectively to maximise performance of individual athletes and teams when coaching as well as exploring wider topics such as school sport provision (PE curriculum), the relationship that stress, anxiety, arousal and team dynamics have on sports performance and many more.

Students on this course will learn through a variety of methods including practical experience, lectures, projects, case studies, presentations, weekly practical sessions and many more designed to equip learners with the skills required to achieve in sport. All students enrolled onto this course will be expected to undertake home study
Assessment methods includes a variety of methods and styles suited to skills and occupationally based qualifications at this level. The style of assessment draws on the learning throughout the qualification and assessments are graded using a scale of pass, merit and distinction.
- 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) and above, including Maths and English,
- or
- BTEC Level 2 / equivalent qualification with GCSE maths and English at grade 4 (C).
