This qualification is for learners who want to start a career in digital technology. It is designed for post-16 learners and can be taken as part of a wider study programme.
It is an ideal qualification for learners intending to progress directly to employment in digital technology or IT, or to an IT apprenticeship.
The qualification has been developed in consultation with employers in the IT sector. This means that it will enable learners to develop the skills and behaviours that give them the best opportunity to be successful in applying for work. All the content of the qualification is mandatory and relates directly to the skills, knowledge and behaviours expected by employers in the IT sector, especially around networking and cybersecurity. The areas learners will cover include: Understanding IT network features and functions, common practices in network security, and the function and features of the main network appliances, Setting up new equipment and upgrading existing systems, IT service solutions and the issues encountered in IT solutions in an organisation, Use of ethical hacking techniques to test the security of a network, Creating and maintaining a network.

BTEC Level 2 Technical Diploma in Digital Technology (Networking and Cybersecurity)
Extra Studies:Students enrolled onto this course will be expected to undertake home study, some independent learning and some students may also be resitting their Maths / English qualification alongside their Digital Technology studies.
You will learn through a variety of different methods including lab practical’s, lectures and group projects as well as self-study around assessments and independent study.
Assess includes a range of methods and styles suited to skills and occupational-based qualifications at this level. The majority of assessments are internally set and assessed with 2 externally assessed units containing an exam and a controlled assessment. Assessments are tailored to draw on learning throughout the qualification and are graded using a scale of pass, merit and distinction criteria
- 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 (D) or above, including either Math’s or English GCSE, which must be Grade 4 (C) or above,
- Level 2 Qualifications with Maths and English Grade 3 (D) or Functional Skills Level 2.

There is an option to progress onto one of our Level 3 courses upon achievement of a minimum Merit grade on this course.
There is also the opportunity to enter employment or to undertake an apprenticeship on successful completion of this course.
