More about the course

This programme will provide you with an excellent grounding in plastering. It helps you to develop the competencies in plastering that will enable you to make a successful entry into the construction industry via an apprenticeship or provide the necessary background skills to pursue a career in a related field in the construction industry.

You will also study a range of areas covering the theory of plastering and how the construction industry operates in the UK.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or equivalent
Mature students with relevant experience and/or other qualifications may be eligible
You will also need to demonstrate the ability to achieve a Level 1 in English and maths as part of a programme of study

Upon successful completion of this course you will achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Plastering.

Form sand and cement screeds
Apply plaster materials to internal surfaces
Fix dry lining and plasterboard products to interiors
Apply render materials to external surfaces
Prepare and lay floor screed

Work experience opportunities

Students studying level 2 plastering at Carlisle College will have the opportunities to work in partnership with British Gypsum, using the latest products to showcase technical skills locally and nationally.

English and Maths

English and maths will be embedded into practical and theory sessions, reinforcing communication, calculations and knowledge, skills and behaviour.

Where can I progress?

On successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma, you may take up a position as a trainee plasterer in industry and follow an apprenticeship training programme.
