More about the course

Want to start a career in the uniformed services?

This course is ideal if you are intending to progress directly to employment within the range of services from emergency services to voluntary and other uniformed services.

The qualification relates directly to the skills, knowledge and behaviours expected by employers in the uniformed services.

Course content focuses on both the practical and theoretical aspects involved in service, giving you insight into discipline, health and fitness requirement, community, teamwork and leadership.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above, including either English or maths GCSE at grade 4 (C) or above

Level 2 qualification with English and maths grade 3 (D) or Functional Skills Level 2

Upon successful completion of this course you will achieve a Level 2 Certificate in the Preparation for the Uniformed Protective Services.

Our tutors and work experience team will be on hand to help you find relevant placements.

English and Maths

English and maths is taught alongside this course, to help students enhance their skills if they were not able to achieve a GCSE grade 4 or above previously.

The course will help you build on your skills in a practical setting. You will learn how to use orientation and time, and improve your written and verbal skills.

Where can I progress?

Upon successful completion of this course you can progress onto one of our Level 3 courses. There is also the opportunity to enter employment or to undertake an apprenticeship.

Public Services Employer Encounters

This term in Uniformed Public Services we have had a number of employer encounters with some of the local public services. This has included visits to Penrith and Patterdale Mountain Rescue, the Cumbria Fire Service, Cumbria Police dogs and Maryport Lifeboat Rescue.
