Engineering - Level 1

• There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However, learners are expected to have basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Upon successful completion of this course you will achieve a City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Engineering, a nationally recognised qualification that demonstrates your foundational knowledge and practical skills in engineering.

• You will complete one mandatory unit: Working in Engineering.
• You will also choose two optional units from a range of topics, including:
  • Fitting,
  • Welding (MMA, MIG, TIG, Oxy-Acetylene),
  • Mechanical and Electrical Assembly,
  • CAD,
  • Engineering Drawing,
  • Mechanical Maintenance,
  • Surface Finishing,
  • Sheet Metal Work.

You are expected to take part in work experience and employer engagement as part of your course and engage with local employers to embed knowledge and skills. 

English and maths is embedded in the course to help you enhance your skills. You will also work towards GCSE English and maths as part of your study programme at the college.

Upon successful completion, you can progress to a Level 2 Engineering qualification, an apprenticeship, or seek entry-level employment in the engineering sector.
